FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does a typical photo shoot last?

For Package #1, I average about 45-60 minutes. For Package #2, I like to plan for 75-100 minutes. That being said, nothing is set in stone, and I’m not watching the clock. I’m going to take as much time as it takes to get those beautiful and special photos. While I never rush a session, I also understand you might have somewhere to whisk off to, so just let me know and we will work around your schedule!

I would like to be in some of the photos with my pet, is that included in your packages?

Umm, yes! In fact, family photos with pets and their humans is one of my favorite things to do. I want your WYTP experience to be a bonding experience for you and your pet. Most of all, I want you to have beautifully documented memories that capture your bond. So put on your pretty/handsome face and cheese it up with your furkid!

But here’s an important caveat: First and foremost, I’m a pet photographer. My focus is always on your furkid(s). If you are looking for traditional family photos and just want to have your pet in them, I’m not your gal. Also, I find that having more than two humans on a shoot makes it very difficult for me to really focus on capturing the furkids the way I want to. The more people, the harder it becomes. That being said, there so many photogs here in San Diego who focus just on family sessions, and a lot of them are happy to have pets in the sessions too. Before you hit that “contact” button, please make sure I’m the right photog for you!

I love the idea of shooting outdoors, but I don’t feel comfortable having my pup off-leash. Is there a way to still shoot outdoors?

Absolutely! Believe it or not, the majority of photographs you see here on my website and/or social media were all done while the pups were actually on-leash. I use PhotoShop to remove the leash in post-production, and we have tricks and ways to hide the leash in family pics. So please, don’t let the leash-dilemma stop you from doing a gorgeous outdoor location!

Do you have a cancellation policy?

I totally understand that life gets in the way sometimes. There is no cancellation fee, but I kindly ask that you give me the courtesy of a cancellation notice at least 3-4 days prior to a shoot, if possible. That way I can adjust my schedule and book someone else who might be on the wait-list. If you ghost me on the day of the shoot without warning or explanation, I will consider myself stood up at prom and reserve the right to refuse to re-schedule you, depending on the circumstances. Since I love my clients and have never had this issue, I consider myself lucky not to worry about charging cancellation fees. (Knock on wood!)

How do I get my images?

I will send you all the images in a Google Drive folder.

When will I get my images?

After the shoot, I will go through all the images I took and select the best of the best and some bloopers for laughs. I will then upload those images into a Google Drive folder and send them to you within 4 days of the shoot. Once you have those images, they are all yours, but please remember those will be straight out of camera and not yet-retouched. You then also get a number of images of your choice that I will retouch for you. I typically turn around the final retouched images within 2.5 – 3 weeks of the shoot. I know you are eager to have these beauties in your possession, so I always do my best to get them done as expeditiously as possible. That being said, please remember that I am not only working on your shoot, but many others at the same time, and I am only human. Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.

What style or type of photographs can I expect?

The best way to answer this question is for you to look through my Portfolio (dog photography & cat photography), Facebook and Instagram accounts. The style/type of photograph you see there is what you can expect to get from a photography session with me.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash (preferred), Venmo/Zelle, and credit card. Payment is due at the time of the shoot.

How should I prepare my pet/s for a shoot?

Check out these links for an overview of how to prep for a dog shoot. Cats, well, they kind of do their own thing!

Do you offer/include prints in your packages?

Unlike some other photographers, I don’t require you to purchase prints through me. In fact, I am happy to give you great suggestions for online print shops where you can get beautiful prints of your photos. If you would like us to handle all of your printing needs, we are happy to do so, however.

Is there a fee for travel?

If the destination is within 20 miles of Carlsbad, there is no fee. If your shoot is more than 40 miles round trip, we charge between $25 and $50 depending on the total mileage to get to you and back to home base at Wag Your Tail Photography. If you are outside of the immediate San Diego area, shoot us and email and we will try to accommodate you!

Do I get the rights to print and/or publish the images I purchase with my WYTP package?

Yes. You get print rights to print your images for personal use only. You are also welcome to post them on your social media and a tag to WYTP is always greatly appreciated. Please read our complete Print Release Form here for full details. If you have any questions, feel free to email us!
